I am Eloise Pigott and I am a Provisional Psychologist with Wakai Waian Healing. I was born in Melbourne on Wurundjeri Country in the place many now call Naarm. My first career was in Defence research where I worked closely with people living with PTSD. Over time I realised I wanted to support people directly, so I changed direction and began studying psychology.
Before joining Wakai Waian Healing I lived in Cairns and many of the people I supported there were First Nation peoples. I learned a lot about the strength it takes to walk between two worlds and the challenges that come with that. When I met the team from Wakai Waian Healing during my masters, I immediately felt connected to the way they worked. Their focus on culture, trust and genuine relationships was different from anything I had seen.
I am grateful to be part of an organisation led by First Nations clinicians who carry deep knowledge of trauma, healing and community. I am learning more each day about the meaning of Wakai Waian which comes from Kalaw Lagaw Ya and speaks to straightening yarn through guidance, respect and good pasin. I look forward to growing my practice here and supporting individuals, families and communities with care and humility.
