From Research to Global Stage: Stefan Dellinger

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Occupational Therapist Stefan Dellinger, who recently presented his honours research on Cultural Safety at the World Federation of Occupational Therapists Conference in Bangkok, Thailand.

To present on a global stage at WFOT is a significant achievement, particularly as a recent graduate. Stefan’s research focused on how prepared occupational therapy students feel to practise Cultural Safety when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and how education can meaningfully shift understanding and capability.

His work explored how cultural capability develops through structured Indigenous wellbeing education, highlighting themes of shifting worldviews, deep self reflection, navigating discomfort, and recognising Cultural Safety as a lifelong journey.

This is not just academic work.

It speaks directly to how clinicians practise with humility, accountability and respect in real communities.

We are especially excited that Stefan is now beginning work with Wakai Waian Healing in the Torres Strait. His research on Cultural Safety is moving from theory into lived practice, within an Indigenous led health organisation grounded in community, culture and Country.

At Wakai Waian Healing, Cultural Safety is not a checklist. It is relational. It requires listening, respect and continuous learning.

Stefan joins our team committed to supporting people to participate fully in meaningful daily life, whether through independence, connection, work, study or routine.

Congratulations Stefan on representing your research on the world stage and for stepping into practice with integrity and purpose.

We look forward to walking alongside you as this journey continues.
