Hi, I’m Adriana. I come from a mixed cultural background, with Brazilian and English origins, and I’ve lived in several countries throughout my life. Before becoming a Clinical Psychologist, I worked as an English teacher, which allowed me to learn from people of many different cultures. One of the most influential experiences of my life was working aboard the Peace Boat, where I met Indigenous leaders, healers, artists and educators from around the world. Those experiences sparked a lifelong interest in culture, humanity and different approaches to healing.
I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in Aotearoa New Zealand, where I learned within a bicultural framework and developed a deep appreciation for Māori and Pasifika approaches to wellbeing. My work has since included Māori community organisations, women’s health, community mental health and private practice, shaping my commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive care.
I enjoy working collaboratively with people and draw on approaches including Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Compassion Focused Therapy. I believe healing is most effective when it honours each person’s values, relationships, culture and life experiences.
I joined Wakai Waian Healing because I was inspired by its Indigenous-led approach, strong values and commitment to community. I feel privileged to be part of a diverse team walking alongside First Nations people and supporting connection to culture, Country and community. I look forward to continuing to learn, both professionally and personally, while contributing to meaningful healing alongside the people and communities we serve.
