Dr Ann Kennedy-Behr

Occupational Therapist

I’ve been an occupational therapist for more than 30 years, and I still love this work as much as the day I began. My journey started as a 17-year-old from a working-class family who just wanted to find a career that would lead to a secure job. Occupational therapy was that choice—and it turned out to be a calling that has shaped my whole life.

Over the years, I’ve worked in aged care, stroke rehabilitation, and most recently, with children and families—which is where my heart truly lies. As a mum of two adult children, I know firsthand the challenges families face, and I believe that when parents are supported, children are more likely to thrive. That belief guides everything I do.

I’ve been fortunate to live and work across the world. I spent 20 years in Germany, where my children were born, and I also practiced in Austria, England and the USA. I speak fluent German and have had the privilege of learning from diverse communities. During that time, I also completed a PhD at the University of Queensland, focusing on preschool children with developmental coordination disorder—a condition that often goes unnoticed but can have lifelong impacts if not supported early.

While I’ve spent time lecturing and researching, I always return to clinical work. Sitting on the floor, playing with children, and working alongside families is what brings me the most joy. I’ve also had the privilege of setting up an allied health clinic in Vanuatu, working with local partners to bring services where they had never been before. That experience deepened my love for island life and community.

I joined Wakai Waian Healing because I was inspired by the story, the vision, and the opportunity to be part of something bigger than myself. I’m committed to creating safe, welcoming spaces for children and families, especially across Central Queensland and the Sunshine Coast. I pride myself on being responsive, building strong relationships with support coordinators, and always striving to deliver high-quality, compassionate care.

At Wakai Waian Healing, I’ve found a place where my skills, experience, and passion meet purpose. I’m proud to be part of a team walking alongside families and communities, helping children unlock their potential and supporting parents to feel strong and empowered.
