Robyn Dowie

Counsellor

My career in health has taken me across Queensland and the Northern Territory, providing opportunities to work in hospitals, remote communities, ambulance services and community-based counselling. Each chapter has reinforced one simple belief: healing happens through relationships built on trust, respect and genuine connection.

I began my career as an enrolled nurse before spending eight years as a paramedic. After many years in frontline healthcare, I transitioned into counselling and now hold a Bachelor of Social Science (Counselling). Over the past decade I have supported children, families and older people across a range of settings, including child protection, community services and healing programs.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Those experiences have shaped both my personal and professional values. I have long admired the strength, wisdom and cultural knowledge held within First Nations communities and believe that healing is strongest when it honours culture, family and community.

Joining Wakai Waian Healing felt like a natural step. I have long respected the organisation’s culturally grounded approach and its commitment to combining clinical excellence with genuine cultural governance. It is a privilege to be part of a team that delivers care with such integrity, and I look forward to contributing my experience while continuing to learn from both colleagues and community.
