Yingying Tang

Psychologist

My name is Yingying Tang, and I am a psychologist passionate about connection, healing, and cultural understanding.

I was born in China and moved to Australia ten years ago. My journey into psychology began after I first trained in science and worked part-time as a counsellor. Once in Australia, I completed a Bachelor of Psychological Science with Honours at the University of Queensland, followed by a Master of Clinical Psychology at CQUniversity, which I finished in 2023. I am now completing my Clinical Psychologist Registrar program, working toward endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist.

My relationship with Wakai Waian Healing began when I undertook a clinical placement here. I immediately felt at home — drawn to the culture, the values, and the people. That placement shaped my path, and I have continued working with Wakai Waian Healing ever since, first in person and now through telehealth after moving back to Brisbane.

I’ve always felt a special connection with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. As someone from a minority background, I find deep resonance in collective ways of being, the importance of land and nature, and the strength of kinship systems. Working with First Nations clients has been both grounding and transformative for me, and I feel privileged to keep learning and growing in this space under the guidance of cultural leaders and mentors.

My clinical interests are broad, but I have a particular passion for neurodiversity. Many clients present with anxiety, depression, or trauma, but beneath these challenges I often see traits of ADHD, autism, or other neurodivergent profiles. I believe recognising and supporting neurodiversity is key to improving mental health outcomes, and this is an area I hope to specialise in further.

I enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds, and I am energised by the diversity of stories, strengths, and challenges that people bring. Above all, I value the opportunity to walk alongside people in their healing journey — learning as much from them as they do from me.
