My name is Dallas Kuhn, a 22-year-old Bidjara man. My people are from the Carnarvon Gorge area. I’m currently in my second year of a psychology bachelor’s degree while also working at Wakai Waian Healing. This organisation holds a special significance for me, as I was once a consumer here when I was a teenager. The experience left an indelible mark on me, and when I saw an opportunity advertised through CQU, I knew I had to seize it.
My career path initially led me to the world of mechanics, where I started my apprenticeship and immersed myself. However, my true passion lies in psychology, a field I am deeply enthusiastic about. My experiences and the transformative power of counselling have ignited this passion, and I am committed to using it to help others navigate their struggles and turn their lives around for the better.
I’m particularly passionate about working with youth, especially First Nations young people. I see a significant need for support in this area, and my dream is to become a developmental psychologist. I want to make a real difference in young lives, using my story as a testament to resilience and growth.
Having faced my own challenges growing up, I understand the complexities of adolescence. It wasn’t until later in life that I began to sort things out, and I wanted to help others do the same at an earlier stage.
As I look forward to the journey ahead, I am filled with excitement and gratitude for the opportunities that lie in front of me. I am deeply committed to making a positive impact, and I eagerly anticipate the chance to contribute to the well-being of young people in my community.
