I was born on Dharumbal country in Yeppoon. My journey into the disability sector began unexpectedly. I fell into the field without much knowledge but quickly discovered my passion for helping others. There’s a unique joy in empowering people to live on their terms, making choices that resonate with their true selves. This passion grew even stronger when I became a mother to six wonderful children, two of whom have disabilities, alongside my husband.
My family’s experiences have shaped my vision. I’ve witnessed firsthand how individuals can lead fulfilling lives despite their disabilities. My oldest son, who struggled with mental health issues, sadly passed away. Reflecting on his journey, I often wish I had known about the supportive spaces available that could have made a difference. This realisation fuels my determination to create positive change for others facing similar battles.
I’ve spent many years navigating the complexities of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for my children and husband. It’s a challenging process, often laden with jargon that can confuse and overwhelm families. One of my goals is to simplify this experience for others, making it more accessible and understandable.
Recently, I re-entered the disability field, inspired by the incredible work of Julie and Ed. Their commitment to making a difference resonates with me, and I feel honoured to contribute to this mission. The team has welcomed me with open arms, and it’s heartening to be surrounded by such warm, kind-hearted individuals.
While I am not Indigenous, I believe in the importance of supporting everyone, especially Indigenous communities. People with disabilities and mental health concerns are often the most marginalised voices, and I am deeply committed to advocating for their rights and needs. Your voice matters, and I am here to support you.
