Rebecca Edmund

Office Manager

My name is Rebecca Edmund and I was born and raised in Rockhampton. While I am not Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander myself, my children are of Darumbal and South Sea Islander descent. Through my family I have been deeply connected to culture and community here on Darumbal Country. Being part of that has been a really meaningful part of my life and something I embrace with pride.

Before joining Wakai Waian Healing, I worked in private medical practice in a specialist ophthalmology clinic. That experience gave me a strong background in patient care, administration and the day to day running of a busy medical service.

What drew me to Wakai Waian Healing was the bigger picture. From the first time I met Ed and the team, and even attending the building’s opening, I could see that this organisation stands for something much bigger than itself. The focus on culture, community and genuine care for First Nations people really resonated with me. I wanted to be part of something that was making a real difference.

In my role as Office Manager, my focus is on creating a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone who walks through our doors. The first impression matters. Whether someone is calling on the phone or arriving for an appointment, it is important that they feel respected, heard and valued.

I also support the smooth day-to-day running of the service, ensuring systems, policies and procedures are in place so our team can focus on providing the best possible care to the community.

For me, working at Wakai Waian Healing is about being part of something meaningful. It is about contributing to a service that supports people, strengthens community and helps make the world a better place.
