Commonwealth Psychosocial Support Program (CPSP)

Wakai Waian Healing is proud to offer the Commonwealth Psychosocial Support Program (CPSP) in the Torres Strait.

We understand that individuals with severe mental health conditions often require tailored support to navigate their daily lives. Our program is designed to assist participants in applying for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) due to a Psychosocial Disability. Our dedicated services provide short-term assistance to help individuals function effectively while engaging with the NDIS application process.

How We Help

Our CPSP offers a range of supportive services aimed at empowering individuals to:

  • Connect with Essential Services: We facilitate access to clinical care and other necessary services.
  • Build Daily Living Skills: Our program enhances your capacity to manage day-to-day activities.
  • Strengthen Social Connections: We help improve social skills, foster friendships, and nurture family relationships.
  • Enhance Educational and Vocational Skills: We support increasing skills in education, vocational training, and personal development.

Understanding Psychosocial Disability

A Psychosocial Disability arises when a mental health condition significantly impacts a person’s ability to function in daily life despite having pursued various treatment options, including medications and therapies like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). It’s important to note that not everyone with a mental health condition will experience a psychosocial disability.

The NDIS provides funding for eligible individuals with a psychosocial disability, helping them access the support they need.

CPSP Client Eligibility

To participate in the Commonwealth Psychosocial Support Program, individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a diagnosed severe mental health condition.
  • Demonstrate a reduced functional capacity in at least one of the six domains of daily living: Mobility, Communication, Social Interaction, Learning, Self-Care, and Self-Management.
  • Be over 18 years of age.
  • Not currently accessing NDIS or state-funded psychosocial supports.
